Meta-owned WhatsApp seems to be planning to introduce a new feature that would enable users to express their appreciation for status updates with a simple “like” reaction. This addition, which is similar to Instagram’s Story likes, is designed to streamline the process of acknowledging and engaging with content shared by their contacts.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the like reaction feature is now being tested by public beta users and has been in development for quite some time. Users will be able to like a status just by tapping a heart emoji icon located at the bottom left of the screen while viewing the update.
The action will trigger a notification for the person who uploads the Status, informing them of a new like and users will also be able to see who liked their Status through the usual view list. This new feature provides a convenient alternative for connecting with people without the need to initiate a full conversation. It is said to have gained popularity similar to Instagram Story likes.

WhatsApp Status Likes To Not Clutter Chats
What’s more important is that Status likes will appear separately from chat threads. This ensures that important conversations remain prominent and unaffected by Status interactions. Users can still respond to Statuses as before, without any changes to that functionality.
The feature is being rolled out to users who are using the latest WhatsApp beta update, version 2.24.17.21, available on the Google Play Store. WABetaInfo anticipates that it will gradually become available to a wider audience in the coming days.
The popular messaging platform service is said to be developing a new feature that will allow users to engage in real-time voice conversations with a chatbot, as per WABetaInfo. Moreover, the company could roll out further enhancements to boost the capabilities of Meta AI’s voice functionality.
The report showcases that the new Meta AI voice chat feature is under development and has been observed in the WhatsApp beta version 24.16.10.17 for iOS. Users are expected to select from a range of default Meta AI voice options to handle their queries.

WhatsApp Is Testing Customizable Bubble Colors
WhatsApp is among the most popular chat apps on Android, but the developers at Meta haven’t really focused on customizations. Most UI changes only stem from the need to provide new features to a home, and even WhatsApp’s own chat background collection on the Play Store hasn’t been updated in more than 10 years.
However, the platform seems to have taken a new approach to colors in the app interface, and users might get the option to switch out the green message bubbles with another hue they like. WhatsApp recently started modifying UI colors, starting with the switch to a darker green hue so the Android client matches the iOS app, briefly switching to a colorless design as well.
