Samsung has filed for a new patent for what seems like a VR headset. MySmartPrice has unearthed documentation indicating that Samsung’s VR headset could brush shoulders with Apple’s Vision pro, and come with somewhat similar features. The patent also reveals that the headset could also feature sensors for augmented reality.
The patent filing has been done at the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and comes with a description that reads: “Communication methods and apparatus utilizing avatars in virtual space.” As per the documentation, Samsung’s headset will be able to display virtual avatars to the user, by leveraging multiple sensors to gather information from surroundings.
However, the documents have no mention of the word ‘headset’ anywhere. Rather, it suggests a gadget that can be worn by users. The data strongly suggests a VR headset but it hasn’t been revealed clearly, possibly to keep the device confidential.

Samsung Headset To Integrate With Other Devices
The patent filing has further suggested that Samsung’s headset will seamlessly integrate with other devices, such as wireless headphones and the Galaxy smartwatch. It seems that the headset will be able to gather information such as heart rate and calories calculated from an external paired device and form a virtual avatar. This could enable users to share real-time workout details with other users.
Moreover, the headset may also pack multiple sensors such as a gyroscope, camera module, infrared sensor, and accelerometer, etc to keep track of the movements and position of the user in real-time. The data can also come in handy to showcase an interactive graphic user interface (GUI) where users can see a digital avatar, and interact with the world around them.
The patent filing also notes that it’s likely that Samsung will have an integrated navigation system, Bluetooth support, and Wi-Fi. The device will also have a processor, GPU, and NPU to manage this data. The headset will also come with a rechargeable battery. However, the filing doesn’t clarify the position of the battery placement.

Will Samsung’s Headset Compete With Apple Vision Pro?
The concept comes across as a similar design to Apple’s Vision Pro, which makes use of sensors to create a virtual world within the headset. However, Samsung’s integration with external devices such as a wireless headphone and smartwatches could make it more feature-rich and upgraded.
Samsung is yet to announce the development of a new VR headset. It is imperative to understand that these details are merely part of the filed patent, and the final product could be something else altogether. It will be interesting to see how the company challenges Apple’s upcoming VR headset.
