Windows 11 just got a new preview build and it brings several important changes to the central pillar of the OS’ interface and File Explorer. There’s an announcement about Copilot as well.
As many might be aware, File Explore is something users use when opening folders on their desktop, and Windows 11 has web browser-like tabs in these folders, thanks to the first big update for the OS, which was released back in 2022. With the new build 22635 in the Beta Channel, Microsoft has brought the ability to easily duplicate a tab in File Explorer.
All users need to do is right-click on an existing tab, and there’s a new option to duplicate it -- on clicking that users will be able to see a second copy of the tab open. It could come in handy if users wish to dive deep into other folders inside a particular folder while keeping the original folder open.

New Update Fixes A Several Bugs In Windows 11
Apart from these features, the preview build brings multiple fixes for this part of the interface, including a solution for a memory leak when using ZIP folders in a File Explorer window. Another fix the update brings is the issue where the spacing between icons in File Explorer becomes very wide.
The update also fixes a bug where a search wouldn’t work the first time users try it, and it won’t provide any results. The company also notes that: “Fixed a few issues impacting File Explorer reliability.” Apart from this, not much is happening in build 22635, but Microsoft has taken a big step back when it comes to Copilot.
Microsoft notes that in the past few months in Windows 11 preview builds, it has tried out a few new ideas with the AI assistant. The company noted: “Some of these experiences include the ability for Copilot in Windows to act like a normal application window and the taskbar icon animating to indicate that Copilot can help when you copy text or images. We have decided to pause the rollouts of these experiences to further refine them based on user feedback.”

Microsoft Steps Back For Copilot Experiments
Interestingly, the feedback has resulted in a halt on some Copilot experiments, though the company is careful not to mention the exact reason why these changes have been taken back (for now).
It doesn’t come as a surprise that the company is being careful about how it wants to move forward with Copilot.
