Apple’s first Vision Pro mixed reality headset failed to attract a big audience across the globe due to its hefty price tag and pretty undercooked features. Still, the Vision Pro managed to kickstart a new device category for the company. That said, it might not be a one-off device and the series could leave a bigger mark in the coming years. And Apple reportedly already has another headset in store.

One of the biggest reasons behind its failure is its heavy price tag, but as per a new rumor, the 2nd generation Apple Vision Pro will come at a lower price. It could cost between $1,500 and $2,500. The first generation device came at a cost price of $3,500.

The company will likely have to lower the cost of the Vision Pro 2 as most firms, including Samsung, will foray into the mixed-reality device market. Google, Qualcomm, and Samsung have been working on a new XR headset, and Samsung and Google could launch their versions later this year for a price lower than $3,500.

Will Samsung Supply Its Tech To Apple?

According to the same rumor, Samsung will be supplying Apple with more components for the 2nd generation Vision Pro. The Korean tech giant is said to specifically supply LLW DRAM to Apple.

Other rumors suggest that the Vision Pro 2’s display could be supplied by Samsung Display. The current model comes with Sony micro-OLED panels. However, Samsung’s display division has been readying itself for the emerging VR market and is reportedly ready to produce OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) panels.

Speaking of the Vision Pro 2’s price, if the reports turn out to be true, it remains to be seen how Apple will lower the cost of the 2nd generation. Apart from streamlining the supply chain and offsetting costs through higher production output and demand, one theory is that Apple could make the second generation cheaper by ditching the EyeSight outward screen.

Although the EyeSight panel is among the most unique features of the Vision Pro and one of its primary marketing tools, it would be hard for the company to get rid of it so soon. Either way, if there’s any truth to the rumor, the Vision Pro 2 will hit the market in 2026.

Apple Could Use Samsung’s Display For Its Foldable iPhone

If reports are to be believed, Samsung Display is trying very hard to make Apple its next big client for foldable displays. Apple seems to have a foldable device in the works. Going by the rumors, Apple’s first foldable device could be an iPhone or a large tablet.

There isn’t any specific detail about the deal yet (via DigiTimes Asia); however, the source has cited supply chain sources and said Apple has signed an agreement with Samsung Display “for the development of foldable devices.”
