According to a report to clients from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu (via 9to5Mac), Apple will start mass producing a 20.3-inch foldable device in late 2025 with a foldable iPhone coming in 2026.
Pu says that Apple is looking at two different internal screen sizes for the foldable iPhone, 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches. The report corroborates a previous report from TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who suggested in March that a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook was in the works.
While Kuo suggested a hybrid foldable from Apple to enter mass production in 2027, Pu notes that the device will go into mass production late next year. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) and a reliable leaker, also called for the company to produce a 20-inch foldable device with a release in 2026 or 2027.

Apple Exploring Foldable And Hybrid Devices
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also believes Apple is "exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid." And recently a patent filing from Apple with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) details a hinge that would come in handy for a foldable Apple device.
Pu’s note to clients could explain why his timeline calls for the tech giant to start mass producing its first foldable device sooner than what other analysts suggested.
Pu notes that the company has fast tracked its work of foldable devices noting that he sees "increasing visibility" of Apple’s foldable devices based on supply chains. The analyst suggests that the foldable device would aim for the "ultra high-end market." Whenever Apple launches its first foldable device, it will be the last of the major phone manufacturers to launch a device in this segment.

Apple Supplier Claims iPhone Is Seeing Decline In Sales
Semiconductor company Skyworks Solutions reported its earnings for the Q2 of 2024 on April 30. The company’s financials hint that the demand for the iPhone was not as good as they might have thought.
Skyworks makes chips that allow smartphones to connect wireless networks, so its fate depends on smartphone sales. According to Apple Insider, Apple is Skywork’s biggest client and that could be the reason the company is seen as a proxy for iPhone’s demand.
In 2023, Skyworks’ sales to Apple made for 64% of its total earnings, and 85% of that came from iPhone sales. This makes the iPhone the single most important product for chip-making companies. For the second quarter of 2024, Skyworks reported a revenue of $1.046 billion, witnessing an 8.7% YoY decline.
