Apple will be taking the wraps off of its next flagship smartphone in September. The iPhone 16 Pro series is said to come with a plethora of AI and other exclusive features. Now, a new report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will use battery cells with increased energy density.
The new battery will offer either longer battery life using the same battery size as seen on the current generation models, or equivalent battery life using a smaller battery. In his latest supply chain survey, Kuo suggests the energy density (Wh/kg) of the battery cells in the iPhone 16 Pro Max will increase, which “has the benefit of longer battery life with the same battery size or lower battery size with the same battery life."
To avoid overheating the battery, Apple will be using a steel battery case for the first time as a thermal solution, as per the analyst.

Who Will Be Apple’s Supplier For New Battery Cases?
Stainless steel isn’t as effective as aluminum in dissipating heat, but it is more robust and isn’t that prone to corrosion. The use of a stainless steel battery case also trims down the difficulty of removing the battery, which will enable the company to comply with the European Union's requirements for mobile phone batteries' replaceability in the future.
If reports are to be believed, Sunway will be a huge supplier of stainless steel battery cases. If the mass production of this new battery design goes according to plan, Kuo believes the design will be used across all iPhone 17 models in 2025.
A rumor, which came out in June last year, suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro models will have stacked batteries, which will offer a longer lifespan, but the analyst did not mention of the tech in his latest survey. Apple is expected to release the upcoming iPhone around mid-September.

Apple To Launch iPhone SE 4 In 2025
In November last year, it was reported by Ming-Chi Kuo, TF International's accurate Apple analyst, that besides the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 Pro will come with a Tetraprism (periscope) zoom camera with 5x of optical zoom. The roadmap corroborates these reports.
The 2024 section of the roadmap suggests larger screen sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro models. The iPhone lineup is expected to see a hike to 6.3 inches (from 6.1 inches) and 6.9 inches (from 6.7 inches) for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max respectively. The roadmap also talks about the OLED display seen on the new iPad Pro (2024) models. Using two layers of OLED makes the screen brighter and sturdier.
