Apple seems to have no plans to launch the next iteration of the Vision Pro headset this year or next year. It seems that the company will launch the second generation Vision Pro by the end of 2026, at least that’s what the latest report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests.

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman talked about Apple’s roadmap for the Vision Pro. He wrote that the roadmap doesn't currently call for a second-generation model until the end of 2026." In February 2024, Gurman said that the second iteration of the headset was "at least 18 months away."

According to Gurman’s sources, the company is still trying to find a way to bring a cheaper version of the headset to the market, although Apple remains "flummoxed" by how exactly they will bring down the cost of the device.

Analyst Says New Version Could Come In 2027

In February, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he believes the new Vision Pro versions with notable changes in the specs department might not go into production until 2027. At the time, Kuo said he expected a modified version of the device to enter mass production in late 2025-2026, with Apple focused on improving the production and costs. However, he also said the "user experience will not differ from the current model."

It’s possible that these changes will not be announced to the public, beyond a potential price reduction. The company is said to release the Vision Pro in additional countries before WWDC in June, with reports that Vision Pro will launch in China as soon as May.

Apple Vision Pro Sales Took a Major Hit

Initially, Apple was aiming to get 700,000 to 800,000 shipments in 2024, but considering the downfall in demand, the company will cut the orders by almost half. Now, the company is reportedly seeking 400,000 to 450,000 shipments from suppliers this year. It is believed that a similar trend might be visible in 2025, forcing the company to tweak its plans.

Mark Gurman, in his other Power On newsletter, emphasized the falling demand, with very low sales numbers per week in some Apple stores. While there can be several reasons behind the low demand for the Vision Pro, the heavy price might not be feasible for all users.

It seems the company wants to move ahead very cautiously and order fewer units, despite its decision to make the headset available to more markets. Previous reports have hinted that the company will make the Vision Pro in Canada before WWDC 2024, which could boost its demand.
