AMD Ryzen CPU’s render diagram seems to have leaked online, showcasing a different CPU structure to AMD’s existing CPUs. The diagram suggests one of the company’s new Strix Halo CPUs, and it’s divided into three chipsets.

AMD is expected to unveil the new Zen 5 architecture at Computex in June. However, this leaked AMD Strix Halo chip is a pretty different beast from the company’s desktop gaming CPUs, which usually have one or more core chipsets and an I/O chip under the hood.

On the right side of the diagram, which was recently shared by leaker Olrak29_ on X, are the two main CPU core chipsets. These chipsets come packed with eight Zen 5 CPU cores, taking the tally to 16 cores, and each chipset is said to have 32MB of L3 cache. However, it’s the massive chip on the left side that grabs the attention. It seems less like a chiplet and looks more like the main chip, despite it not carrying any x86 CPU cores.

Is The New CPU Similar To the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 Chip?

Olrak29_ compares the looks of the new CPU to an AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 chip, which had two HBM dies in the same package as the GPU, rather than comprising GDDR memory on the PCB, and there’s a definite likeness. It seems like the 16 Zen 5 CPU cores are second to this big third chip.

The diagram label suggests this chip packs a GPU housing 20 RDNA 3+ workgroup processors (WGPs), which would tally with previous AMD Strix Halo leaks. An AMD WGP offers two of the company’s compute units, and with the RDNA 3 architecture users will get 64 stream processors in both of the compute units. Besides, there will be two AI matrix accelerators and one ray tracing accelerator.

AMD Seems Serious About Using GPU Tech In CPUs

It’s important to note that this chip is crafted for laptops instead of desktops, but it shows how the company finally wants to leverage its GPU tech for CPUs. Existing AMD CPUs with Radeon GPUs, including the Ryzen 5 8600G, don’t comprise more than eight CPU cores.

At the bottom of the label, Zen 5 LP can also be seen, which could be a reference to some low-power Zen 5 cores that are also used in the chip. The company is already making low-power iterations of its Zen 4 cores, called Zen 4c, which feature the same architecture and instructions per clock as full-size Zen 4 cores.
