Fresh on the heels of a well-received reveal at the Xbox Showcase, Ubisoft has dropped the first gameplay trailer of Star Wars: Outlaws. The nearly 10-minute clip was a walkthrough of the components of the open-world Star Wars game. The game which releases in 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC unfolds between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and features a bounty hunter named Kay Vess. Kay is accompanied by Nix, a six-armed creature and is planning a heist to rob the Syndicate.

The detailed trailer explored combats and the different settings and shed some light on the high-reward missions players can engage with as Kay. Ubisoft revealed on their website that the action jumps from stealth to an all-out firefight and the trailer featured sprawling outdoor landscapes that Kay explores on her speeder.

The trailer starts with Kay and Nix sneaking around a shady underworld fight pit (or hangar) looking for a prize.  Kay's blaster is her primary weapon and comes with different modes of shooting. When she's detected she attempts to escape by speeder bike and ends up at a cantina in Jaunta's Hope.

The trailer then moves to a space setting to highlight the game's open-world possibilities as Kay jumps into the Akiva system right after shooting down some Imperial tie-fighters in hyperspace. The gameplay reveals that the third-person shooter has an emphasis on stealth. Players can also take jobs for and against various factions in the galaxy.

It's important to note that Outlaws takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. So, it's likely set a few decades after the events of Jedi: Survivor and a few years before The Mandalorian. It's developed by Massive, the Ubisoft Sweden branch that's also making Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, previously made The Division 1 and 2, and in more ancient times, the 2007 RTS World in Conflict.
