The much-awaited Xbox Showcase just unveiled the trailer for Ubisoft Massive's Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world Star Wars game. The game which releases in 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC unfolds between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The stylised 2:26-minute trailer reveals a 'scoundrel' named Kay Vess, who is a bounty hunter, seemingly attempting a big heist and is accompanied by Nix, a six-armed creature. She is shown playing a poker game at an underworld saloon where she is attacked by some droids. Kay's heist most likely targets the Syndicate which has played a big role in other storylines featuring The Outer Rim.
Star Wars Outlaws Introduces a New Original Story and Cast of Characters
"It’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with the team at Lucasfilm Games to create Star Wars Outlaws, the first open-world Star Wars game," Julian Gerighty, creative director at Massive Entertainment, shared recently, about the game which has been developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games.
He further added, "Our team at Massive Entertainment has a great deal of experience in open-world games backed by strong technology, and it’s the perfect time to tell an original scoundrel story that will resonate with fans. With the Galactic Empire on the heels of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld thriving, an outlaw like Kay Vess has a whole galaxy of opportunity in front of her."
The trailer reveals very little about the gameplay but the description promises that the game will let players 'Fight, steal, and outwit' their way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates. With Star Wars's history of stylish outlaw storylines, chances are this game too will impress fans. The franchise has been paving the way for stories around rebels who are forced to live under the thumb of the Galactic Empire and must claw their way out. The official date of the game's release hasn't been confirmed yet.
