Sony has started testing a new PlayStation 5 software beta that includes Dolby Atmos support, up to 8TB of M.2 SSD storage support, and some UI improvements. PlayStation revealed on its blog that the new beta version would be rolled out only to invited users in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany and France and eventually it will be made available globally.
The beta also includes options to find games faster along with console tips, support for larger-capacity M.2 SSDs, new ways to connect with other players and customising options for multiplayer sessions and support for larger-capacity M.2 SSDs (up to 8TB). The update will also enhance the social aspects of the PS5 since it comes with emoji reactions and lets players invite other players to a closed party without adding them to a group. They can also see a preview of someone sharing their screen before they join a party and Sony is also adding emoji reactions for messages.

The Tempest 3D AudioTech Could Be A Crowd-Puller
The beta also gives users the ability to assign a second ‘assist controller’ and a new option to enable haptic feedback from a DualSense controller while navigating around the interface. However, supporting compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices is one of the biggest USPs. Sony’s 3D Audio implementation or Tempest 3D AudioTech will be compatible with Dolby Atmos devices like sound bars, TVs, and home theatre systems.
“Tempest 3D AudioTech specifically renders to the Dolby Atmos audio devices in use – including overhead channels – allowing for even greater levels of immersion in the audioscapes of PS5 games,” shared Sony in a PlayStation blog.
Sony is also making some fundamental changes with the update. Players can now mute the beep sound which comes on as they turn on the console or adjust its volume. The update will reportedly roll out in a few months and people can sign up for it on PlayStation's official site.
