PlayStation Portal Remote Player has Very Limited Functionality
Sony first announced the PlayStation Portal remote player in May 2023, teasing a remote-play device dedicated to the PlayStation 5 console. Alongside the device, Sony also gave a quick peek at their first wireless earbuds, now Pulse Explore. In September, Sont revealed more details regarding their handheld device alongside the reveal of PlayStation's over-the-ear wireless headset, Pulse Elite.
The PlayStation Portal remote player will bring the PS5 experience to a handheld device. Fans will be able to enjoy the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The remote player features a vibrant 8-inch LCD screen with a 1080p 60fps display. According to Sony, the PS Portal remote player is perfect for gamers who use a shared space. This remote player allows one to move away from their PS5 console and enjoy the same experience in a different room.
Players can connect the PlayStation Portal device remotely to the PS5 console using Wi-Fi. Moreover, one can seamlessly jump from their console to the remote player. Portal lets one play supported and installed PS5 console games using the Dualsense controller. Lastly, the device supports a 3.5mm audio jack for users interested in wired audio. However, Sony mentioned that Portal remote player devices do not support PS VR2 games that require the headset, alongside games that use PS Plus Premium's cloud streaming services.
