Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 comes with built-in support for a third-party audio tool that charges $20 for improved sound. In a blog post, Activision said Black Ops 6 launches with an Enhanced Headphone Mode that makes use of Embody’s Immerse Spatial Audio technology “to increase the directional accuracy of sounds played in the world.”

Embody is a personalized audio company that has already worked with the likes of Final Fantasy 14 and Cyberpunk 2077 to integrate its technology into video games. Immerse Spatial Audio works with any headphone or earbud model and is said to “greatly improve the player’s spatial audio experience.”

It is a Universal Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) profile that has been included as part of Black Ops 6’s Enhanced Headphone Mode. This profile has been “specifically created for the Call of Duty soundscape.”

How Much Will Embody's Personalized Audio Cost?

Besides, Activision said, players can “choose to enhance this HRTF experience even further by creating a Personalized profile that takes into account the player’s physical attributes, such as the shape of their ear or head. This customization is accessed in-game and completed by using Embody’s personalization portal.”

What the company’s blog post failed to mention is that allowing Embody's personalized audio in Black Ops 6 costs real-world money, and it’s this revelation that has caught some Call of Duty fans off-guard, leading to complaints across social media and subreddits and accusations that the game is “pay-to-hear.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is only a few days from its release, and Activision has already set up various options for gamers to get their hands on the latest installment quickly. Gamers who pre-ordered the title can preload it on their systems as soon as it arrives. Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25, 2024; however, the timing of the launch varies from region to region.

Ubisoft Confirms New Rayman Project Following Remake Reports

Highlights

  • Ubisoft has confirmed a new Rayman project is currently in the “exploration phase” at its Montpelier and Milan studios.

  • This comes after recent online reports that work has started on an unannounced Rayman remake.

  • Reports that Rayman remake is in development first surfaced through Insider Gaming, which claimed the game - reportedly codenamed Project Steamboat.

According to Eurogamer, Ubisoft has confirmed a new Rayman project is currently in the “exploration phase” at its Montpelier and Milan studios, following recent online reports that work has started on an unannounced Rayman remake.

Reports that Rayman remake is in development first surfaced through Insider Gaming, which claimed the game - reportedly codenamed Project Steamboat - was “being pieced together” by a team that included around a dozen members of Ubisoft’s Price of Persia: the Lost Crown team.

Besides, the site reported Rayman creator Michel Ancel is also working on the project as a consultant. Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020 after three decades with the company allegedly following an investigation into employee complaints accusing him of toxic leadership - with his behavior said to have been so bad other managers were called in to act as intermidiaries between Ancel and his team.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Team Working On The Project

Ancel rubbished the report as “fake news,” but Insider Gaming claims his recent involvement as a consultant on the new Rayman project has "cast a less-than-popular light" on its development and "raised some concerns among team members."

A Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer: "We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand. The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As the creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe."

Regardless of the reason for Ancel’s involvement, it’s unsurprising Ubisoft’s hiring decision has reportedly unnerved employees given his exit in 2020 came amid the reckoning for the company.

Word of a new Rayman project at Ubisoft comes after confirmation the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been disbanded. And while some of its members are now said to be working on Rayman, Insider Gaming claims others have been moved to the company’s long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the next Ghost Recon.

Team Behind Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Disbanded

The team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been disbanded, as per a report from French media outlet Origami. In a video posted, Origami reports that the team behind The Lost Crown was disbanded despite seemingly positive reports from developers on their experiences working on the game.

Per a tweet by Gauthier Andres: "I've heard and read 'It was the best game production in my entire life' three or four times in a single weekend while getting information on the game's development. One after the other I was told it was seen as a beacon of hope to create a safe space for people that were burnt out by Beyond Good & Evil 2. The team has been disbanded by Ubisoft."

  • After its decision to end PSVR support Minecraft, developer Mojang has announced it will be following the same route for VR on PC.

  • Users will no longer be able to sport VR googles and stroll through Minecraft set to be removed from both platforms from March next year.

  • After March’s update and the demise of Minecraft’s official VR support, all existing worlds will at least still be available to build using non-VR/MR devices.

After its decision to end PSVR support Minecraft, developer Mojang has announced it will be following the same route for VR on PC. Users will no longer be able to sport VR googles and stroll through Minecraft set to be removed from both platforms from March next year.

"Our ability to support VR/MR devices has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025," Mojang wrote in a notice buried midway through its patch notes for Minecraft's latest Bedrock 1.21.40 update.

After March’s update and the demise of Minecraft’s official VR support, all existing worlds will at least still be available to build using non-VR/MR devices, and all Marketplace purchases will continue to be available as well.

VR Minecraft Players Can Still Enjoy The Game

While the developer is bidding adieu to VR in an official capacity, all is not lost people for users who enjoy Minecraft on VR on PC. As noted by Road to VR, virtual reality support can still be modded into Minecraft’s Java edition using Vivecraft, and there’s also Questcraft for Meta’s Quest headsets.

Speaking of Minecraft's Bedrock 1.21.40 update, there’s the full launch of Mojang’s previously experimental Bundles feature -- which enables players a way to stack different blocks or items together in the same inventory site save space, and a new hardcore mode, all listed out in the company’s latest patch notes.

This comes after Mojang’s recent decision to ditch its traditional single summer Minecraft update in favor of multiple content drops throughout the year.

The team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been disbanded, as per a report from French media outlet Origami. The video also states that the game’s fate was effectively decided just a few weeks after its release. The core game development team reportedly fought to get a sequel or at least more expansion beyond the single “Mask of Darkness” expansion, but Ubisoft allegedly needed more help on other projects that had better sales potential.
