A major restructure is underway at EA with the mega-publisher forming two new organizations -EA Entertainment and EA Sports. While the former will handle the majority of the publisher's IPs and licensed games, the latter will overlook some of the biggest sports franchises and IPs by EA such as EA Sports FC, Madden, and NHL.
Samantha Ryan will be in charge of the single-player AAA division along with Jeff Karp, who will head the publisher's mobile game division. EA Sports continues to be under the leadership of Cam Weber, who has been appointed President of the organization. While this doesn't necessarily mean a major shift in how the games are developed, it will be interesting to see if the new restructure results in more interesting innovations and exciting products from Electronic Arts.

"This evolution of our company continues to empower our studio leaders with more creative ownership and financial accountability to make faster and more insightful decisions around development and go-to-market strategies,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson as he announced the restructuring plans to the company's employees. "These steps will accelerate our business, drive growth, and deliver long-term value for our people, our players and our communities."
While this shake-up will probably not affect the development of games already in the pipeline, it's a "wait-and-see" situation for the audience as new leadership could result in something exciting. One of the more interesting outcomes could be to see what happens with "EA Originals", a brand of the publisher's that primarily deals with the publishing of indie games.
Its most notable products include It Takes Two, Unravel, and Sea of Solitude. EA Originals funds exciting indie projects and takes no share in the revenue. This is widely regarded as one of EA's more altruistic endeavours, something that fans have been appreciative of. It will be interesting to see if this new shake-up could affect EA Originals.
