Nike Virtual Studios and EA Sports have announced a new partnership that will introduce players to ".Swoosh" in EA Sports FC games. .SWOOSH is an NFT platform built on Polygon on the Ethereum scaling network and offers collectibles such as digital sneakers and membership cards to users.
It will be interesting to see how Nike and EA choose to handle the inclusion of NFTs into the upcoming EA Sports FC. For the most part, gamers have been skeptical about the inclusion of NFTs in their video games, but maybe, EA has a plan in place so as to not alienate their core fanbase.
"Nike and EA SPORTS share a commitment to innovation, creativity, and excellence, and we are thrilled to partner with them," said Ron Faris, GM of Nike Virtual Studios."This partnership will allow us to unlock some incredible new experiences for our .SWOOSH community and the massive EA SPORTS fan base."

As Expected, Losing the FIFA License Meant NFTs for EA All Along
“All of us at EA SPORTS are focused on leading the next evolution in sports fandom, and this new collaboration with our longtime partners at Nike sits directly at the intersection of innovation, sport, and culture,” said Andrea Hopelain, SVP of Brand for EA SPORTS & Racing. "Working with .SWOOSH, we’ll bring creativity and self-expression to the forefront for fans as they connect, compete, and share their love for sport.”
After news broke of EA having lost the FIFA license, many suspected that the publisher will likely attempt to take the franchise in directions it could not when shackled by the FIFA license. In a statement released by the publisher before announcing EA Sports FC, the publisher all but confirmed that the franchise will likely include things like NFTS in the near future.
The EA Sports football franchise has an enormous fanbase that tunes in for the annual release religiously. The inclusion of NFTs, while not gameplay-impeding, per se, might be a little tough for players to swallow. Since the games are already pretty taxing when it comes to the FUT side of things as EA has been known to make the majority of their profits through the incredibly lucrative game mode.
The inclusion of NFTs should probably be purely cosmetic as it could really sour fans' opinion of the game if it were anything but that. Fan response to the inclusion of NFTs in their football games has been pretty mixed and has been met mostly with a "wait and see" approach.
