WhatsApp has been testing usernames on its platform for several months. Now, the latest beta version of WhatsApp has revealed that the company is reportedly planning to add a PIN feature for usernames that will offer users more control over their privacy and security on the platform.
WABetaInfo has reported that the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.2 includes PIN support while creating usernames. The feature is to add an additional layer of safety and privacy.
The username PIN is similar to the profile PIN that will prevent someone random from initiating the chat. As per the report, users can set a PIN while setting up the username and it will enable them to prevent random people from contacting them on the platform. Besides, other users who have someone’s username will need that PIN to initiate the chat.

Users Can Hide Their Details From Other Users
Users will also be able to choose whether they want others to see their phone numbers or usernames on WhatsApp. This is not the first time WhatsApp has tested a feature that aims to offer more control to users. Apart from the usernames and PIN, WhatsApp has recently started testing a new feature dubbed “Block messages from unknown accounts.”
Moreover, the instant messaging platform has already rolled out several other privacy-centric features such as Block unknown callers, Privacy Dashboard, and more.
It is worth mentioning that both usernames and PIN features are currently in the testing phase and are currently available in WhatsApp for Android Beta. WhatsApp hasn’t revealed when it will be released as a stable build. However, it is expected to come in the coming days.

WhatsApp To Borrow Instagram’s Story Like Reaction
Meta-owned WhatsApp seems to be planning to introduce a new feature that would enable users to express their appreciation for status updates with a simple “like” reaction. This addition, which is similar to Instagram’s Story likes, is designed to streamline the process of acknowledging and engaging with content shared by their contacts.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the like reaction feature is now being tested by public beta users and has been in development for quite some time. Users will be able to like a status just by tapping a heart emoji icon located at the bottom left of the screen while viewing the update.
The action will trigger a notification for the person who uploads the Status, informing them of a new like and users will also be able to see who liked their Status through the usual view list. This new feature provides a convenient alternative for connecting with people without the need to initiate a full conversation. It is said to have gained popularity similar to Instagram Story likes.
