If you own an old smartphone, we might have bad news for you. WhatsApp might stop working on this smartphone, forcing you to switch to a new phone to use the app. According to a report by CanalTech, WhatsApp will stop updating and functioning on over 35 smartphones from vendors, including Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, Motorola, LG, and Samsung.
While brands like LG and Huawei have stopped selling phones in India, many are still using old phones from these brands, and they are now compelled to upgrade to a new smartphone, given they intend on using WhatsApp in the future. Not just WhatsApp, several other apps also have similar policies, and with WhatsApp it’s much easier to identify, considering its three billion-plus users.
The list features some of the highly popular smartphones from the yesteryears of this decade such as the Apple iPhone 6 and the first-gen iPhone SE. Besides, popular Samsung phones like Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3 Mini, and Galaxy S4 Mini users also need to upgrade to newer models to keep WhatsApp up and running.

WhatsApp To Stop Working On These Phones
Smartphone makers have supported smartphones for only a few years. Due to software and hardware compatibility, developers like Meta optimize their apps for newer software versions. To run the app, users will require at least an Android 5 Lollipop or iOS 12. While the report lists only popular smartphones, WhatsApp will likely stop working on more budget Android phones running Android 4 or older versions.
For Samsung, the list includes Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Express 2, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Mini, and Galaxy S4 Zoom. As for Motorola devices, only Moto G, and Moto X are on the list. Apple devices include the iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE.
As for Huawei, the Ascend P6 S, Ascend G525, Huawei C199, Huawei GX1s, and Huawei Y625 are on the list. Lenovo devices include the Lenovo 46600, Lenovo A858T, Lenovo P70, and Lenovo S890. Sony phones on the list are the Xperia Z1 and Xperia E3. As for LG, the devices include the Optimus 4X HD, Optimus G, Optimus G Pro, and Optimus L7.
If you are someone who owns any of these devices, it’s recommended to upgrade before WhatsApp stops working, as transferring data from an old device to a new one will be difficult once the app stops working.

WhatsApp Will Finally Let Users Share HD Photos, Videos
WhatsApp is upping the game with a new default setting for sharing high-quality photos and videos. According to a report from Android Police, the popular messaging app is rolling out a new feature that lets users set “HD” as the default upload quality for videos and photos. This means users won’t have to manually choose HD every time they share media, making high-quality sharing easy.
Previously, as an alternative, some users had to attach media as documents to avoid WhatsApp’s compression. This workaround added extra steps, but thankfully WhatsApp is putting an end to it.
