At some point in 2025, Samsung users should be able to get access to the same convenience iPhone users have been enjoying for several years. Samsung users will be able to tap their phone or watch on a smart door to lock or unlock it. What it means is that the company wants to make your Samsung smartphone a smart door key.
Recently, Samsung announced that it’s adopting the new Aliro smart lock standard for Samsung Wallet’s Digital Home Key. This will allow tap-to-unlock and hands-free unlocking for any compatible door locks.
As of now, users can add a digital key for a smart lock to their Samsung wallet and open that to access the lock’s control from their phone. With this new feature, users won’t be required to unlock their phone or access the wallet to control the door; they just need to tap on their phone or smartwatch on the lock, and it will open.

Samsung Going The Apple Way
The tap-to-unlock feature is similar to the one seen on Apple’s current Home Key feature. It’s like using Apple Pay on the front door. With this new standard, it won’t be limited to iPhones and Apple Watches.
“We’re adopting the Aliro standard for Samsung’s wallet, with Digital Home Key coming in 2025. And, if they have UWB, you can have the door open automatically.” Mark Benson, head of Samsung SmartThings US, told The Verge in an interview.
When there’s a UWB radio in both the lock and inside of their mobile device, the two can communicate to determine their precise location and unlock the door as they approach from outside the house, allowing a more hands-free experience. Apple announced earlier this year that it will also support hands-free unlocking through UWB on smart locks in Apple Home.

Samsung Could Start Charging For Certain Galaxy AI Features
The Galaxy Tab S10 series and S24 FE saw the daylight recently and the Galaxy AI suite was one of the dominating features on the marketing side. While all of the new AI features are currently available for free, Samsung once again hinted that it might not be the case for too long.
One of the footnotes in the official press release for the new Tab S10 series and S24 FE explicitly mentions that “Fees may apply to certain AI features at the end of 2025.”
Samsung previously confirmed that “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices,” so it is safe to assume that Samsung’s AI suite, or certain parts of it, will, in fact, require a payment starting 2025.
