User privacy is something that WhatsApp talks about very frequently. In the last few months, the instant messaging app has rolled out several features aimed at upgrading user privacy. These features include not enabling people to take screenshots of profile photos, rolling out passkeys, and allowing users to control who uses their avatar in stickers among others.
Now, the platform is said to be working on a new feature that will allow users to view their security settings quickly. According to a report for WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned company is working on a new security checkup feature in its latest beta update for Android 2.24.15.13, now available on the Google Play Store. What Is WhatsApp’s New Security Feature?
The new feature is said to streamline the process of managing account security. Users will be able to access and configure several critical security options from a single screen. The feature will let users set up a passkey, enabling them to secure their accounts by logging into WhatsApp using biometric data or a screen lock.
Moreover, users can add an email to their account, which makes it easier to recover accounts if the user receives verification codes via SMS. Enabling two-step verification adds an extra layer of security with a personal 6-digit code, further protecting the account from unauthorized access.
This security checkup feature showcases a proactive approach to account safety. By bringing all important security settings in place, the platform is pushing users to engage with and configure their security preferences.
The report also added that to ensure ongoing account protection, WhatsApp will provide regular prompts within the chats tab, reminding users to review and update their security settings.
