The latest WhatsApp beta is introducing voice message transcription - a feature previously limited to Google Messages on Pixel phones - to all Android devices. According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android v2.24.15.5 is bringing voice message transcription to the popular cross-platform messaging service.
This has been spotted in development previously, but it seems this is now ready for rollout in several languages. Although despite updating to the latest WhatsApp beta build, this option might not be live on all test devices. This report suggests that when users update to this beta build, WhatsApp will show a pop-up to confirm that transcripts are available for incoming voice messages.

WhatsApp Taking Cues For Google’s Pixel Phones
Users could receive a pop-up when launching the app after updating. To work in WhatsApp, users will be required to download a language pack or voice message transcription first. This feature only supports five languages as of now: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi. Once users do this, the audio is analyzed before a transcript is produced. All transcripts are generated on their phone, while voice messages are also encrypted to guarantee privacy.
This is very similar to how a few Google Pixel phones are able to get voice message transcription when using SMS, MMS, or RCS messaging within Google Messages. In that case, the audio is quickly analyzed before a text chat box appears beneath the audio waveform. This allows users to get context from a message even if they aren’t able to listen at that time.
It seems the feature is rolling out to a small group of beta testers in selected regions at present. Hopefully, a wider rollout is due, as it is a good extra accessibility feature. It also means users don’t have to suffer through podcast-length voice notes in the future.
It’s good to see the instant messaging service testing a feature like this, as several other cross-platform services do not offer this feature even with lots of AI integration and enhanced functions.

WhatsApp’s Will Prevent Users From Joining Unknown Groups
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that will keep users by giving them more information about a group before joining it. That means the next time someone users don’t know adds users to a WhatsApp group, users will be shown additional details such as who added them, when the group was created, and who created it.
The Meta-owned platform said that this specific user safety feature is intended to help someone make a more informed decision on whether or not it’s a group that they are aware of or want to be a part of. “It is particularly helpful if you just met someone or a group of people, and haven’t yet saved them in your contacts,” WhatsApp said in a press release.
