Google took over Fitbit in 2021 and since then the company has launched several new smartwatches including Versa 4 and Sense 2 in 2022. However, Google has confirmed that it will no longer launch new smartwatches under the Fitbit brand, and will shift focus on the Pixel Watch series to fill that gap, as per a report from Engadget.
Google’s director of product management for Pixel smartwatches, told Engadget that “Pixel Watch is our smartwatch part of the portfolio.” This was in response to a question about any future Fitbit-branded smartwatches, adding that the Pixel Watch is “our next iteration of smartwatch for Fitbit.”

Is It The End Of Line For Fitbit Smart Wearables?
While Google has shut the doors for Fitbit smartwatches, but it might not be the end for Fitbit. In light of the recent confirmation, it is pretty much clear that Fitbit will no longer exist as a smartwatch brand. However, the company will continue to make fitness trackers offering long battery life.
“Fitbit-branded products will focus on trackers that are “more minimalistic” with long battery life, said Waraich.
When Google announced the first Pixel Watch, it showcased several features that were borrowed from Fitbit. With every generation of the Pixel Watch, the company has improved those features and added new ones too to bring Pixel Watches up to competition and offer improved health and fitness features like Fitbit smartwatches.
It is worth noting that existing Fitbit smartwatches will continue to be sold in the market and will also receive software and could even receive new features in the coming days.

Google Launches Pixel Watch 3 In India
