Highlights

  • The demand for the Apple Vision Pro is much lower than it was when it came out.

  • One reason behind this could be the hefty price tag that the Apple Vision Pro carries.

  • Apple is said to seek 400,000 to 450,000 shipments from suppliers in 2024.

It’s pretty evident that the hype around Apple’s Vision Pro has fizzled out after months of talk. That said, the demand for the headset is much lower than it was when it came out. The Apple Vision Pro did not manage to become a hot seller as Apple might have estimated. This is the reason why shipment orders have been trimmed down.

One reason behind this could be the hefty price tag that the Apple Vision Pro carries. It is one of the most expensive mixed-reality headsets available out there. Vision Pro demand took a major hit as Apple has now ordered fewer units of the device. With the demand going down below Apple’s expectations, the company has decided to order fewer shipments, as per Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and there might be several reasons why users are losing interest in the product.

Apple Vision Pro Sales Takes A Major Hit

Apple was aiming to achieve 700,000 to 800,000 shipments for 2024 initially, but going by the falling demand, the company will cut the orders by almost half. Now, Apple is said to seek 400,000 to 450,000 shipments from suppliers in 2024. The trend might also be visible in 2025, causing Apple to tweak its plans.

Mark Gurman recently talked about Apple Vision Pro in his Power On newsletter, showcasing the plummeting demand, with very minimal sales per week in some Apple Stores. While there can be several reasons for the lower-than-expected demand, the heavy price tag might not attract everyone. Kuo claims that the company is going back to its roadmap for the headset as he believes the demand will decline next year as well.

It seems Apple is taking things ahead very cautiously and ordering fewer units, despite its decision to expand to other markets. Previous reports suggested that Apple will make the headset in Canada before the WWDC 2024, which could boost its demand.

Will There Be A Cheaper Apple Vision Pro Variant?

It was earlier reported that Apple has a budget variant of the Vision Pro in the works. It is believed that it will cost way less than the current model, possibly around $1,500 and $2,500. Apple could launch Vision Pro’s successor in 2025, but until then, shipments are expected to go downward. Apart from the price, Gurman also said that using the Vision Pro is an inconvenience when compared to a tablet and laptop, with even more media consumption. It could be due to its battery attachment and visionOS interface.
