While Samsung has shifted its focus on mass-producing its 3nm process, which is said to be used for its Exynos 2500 SoC, Apple is planning to take a bigger lead in the area. The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly working on a deal to secure TSMC’s 2nm production capacity.
According to a report from Economic Daily News, Apple COO Jeff Williams reportedly visited TSMC in Taiwan and had a meeting with TSMC President Wei Zhejia. The meeting is said to have discussed the development of AI chips and a contract to secure TSMC’s first batch of 2nm production capacity.

Apple Has Done Something Meetings In The Past
This is not the first time Apple has done something like this. When TSMC first started producing its 3nm process, Apple tried to get hold of the first batch of 3nm production as well. That technology was leveraged in Apple’s A17 Pro chip that was used in the iPhone 15 Pro. The company’s M4 chip, which can be seen on the new iPad Pro, uses an ungraded version of this 3nm technology.
Shifting from a 3nm process to a 2nm process would give Apple’s new chips a performance boost and make them more energy efficient. This is due to a smaller process that could fit more transistors in a smaller space.
By securing TSMC’s 2nm chipmaking process, Apple would make it very hard for its competitors to get access to these advanced chips. It would allow Apple to meet the demands of power users with its new products.

Apple To Ditch Plus iPhone Models With iPhone 17 Series
Even though Apple has yet to launch the iPhone 16, there are already several rumors about the iPhone 17 out there. It was earlier reported that the next-gen iPhone could be backed by the new processor from Apple’s primary chip supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
Several other reports were doing rounds about Apple's planning to discontinue the Plus models after the launch of the iPhone 16 this year. Now, it is said that the iPhone 17 Slim will not only replace the Plus models but also be the most expensive smartphone of the series.
Recently, Jeff Pu forecasted that the iPhone 16 series would be the last series to see the launch of a Plus model. Now, a fresh report suggests that The Information gives more information about the iPhone 17, claiming that the iPhone 16 Plus will indeed be the last iteration of the Plus models. Instead of the iPhone 17 Plus, the company could launch the iPhone 17 Slim instead.
The Information’s report suggests that as a replacement for the Plus model, the company will launch a “significantly thinner” phone than the current iPhones, filled with upgrades such as a revamped camera system.
