Apple Issues Warning For Users Who Charge Their iPhones Overnight

Many users have a habit of charging their smartphone by their bedside before drifting into a good night’s sleep. Well, no one likes to see their phones having only 10% battery when they wake up. For some, it could put a damper on their day. But Apple wants to warn users about charging their iPhones overnight under a pillow or blanket.

The company has issued a warning to iPhone users about charging the device overnight on a support page called "Important safety information for iPhone." The company’s warning reads: "...don’t sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body when it’s connected to a power source. Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging. Take special care if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body."

There have been several instances where a fire broke out because an iPhone was charging under a blanket or a pillow while charging. It’s important to understand that doesn’t just apply to iPhones and all other smartphone users should ensure that before they fall asleep they are not charging their phones under a pillow or blanket and that the device is properly ventilated.

Apple Issues Another Warning About Using Fake Cables

Apple issued another warning on its support page about different aspects of charging that have had serious consequences. Many users lose charging cables and power adapters, they usually end up buying a fake cable.

Since Apple and several other OEMs no longer include charging adapters in the box with their phones, new iPhone users might consider spending a little more for the official Apple accessory.

Apple’s take on third-party charging gear: "You can also charge iPhone with "Made for iPhone" or other third-party cables and power adapters that are compliant with USB 2.0 or later and with applicable country regulations and international and regional safety standards. Other adapters may not meet applicable safety standards, and charging with such adapters could pose a risk of death or injury." Apple adds, "Using damaged cables or chargers, or charging when moisture is present, can cause fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to iPhone or other property."

Apple Wants Users To Check This On Power Adapters

The Cupertino-based tech giant has advised its users to check for the following on their power adapter because any of these conditions could be dangerous and should be considered a sign to purchase a new power adapter.

• The power brick plug looks damaged.
• The cable is damaged.
• The power adapter is exposed to moisture.
• The adapter’s enclosure is damaged due to a fall.
