Will Apple Integrate Gemini AI With iOS 18?

A few weeks before Apple’s annual event, there were rumors that the company was looking to partner with either OpenAI or Google to use their models. When the company announced Apple Intelligence, it also mentioned OpenAI. When the system needs to access larger language models in the cloud, it will delegate the task to GPT-4o.

However, that’s not the end of the story. Craig Federighi, the company’s senior vice president of software engineering, said that Apple is still open to bringing in Google’s models. “We want to enable users ultimately to choose the models they want, maybe Google Gemini in the future,” he told reporters after the keynote.

As of now, there are a lot of models for the company to pick from, but GPT-4o and Gemini seem to be some of the best ones. This is despite the fact Gemini has been dropping the ball in different areas. In any case, it’s still nice that the company wants to offer people the opportunity to choose. Having more options is always better. Currently, this is still early information, so fans will have to wait for more details to come out.

Apple Intelligence Putting Apple Back In The AI Race

Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, said that “Apple Intelligence” puts AI models “right at the core of your iPhone, iPad and Mac” and “protects your privacy at every step.”

The new features will be available when Apple releases iOS 18 later this year. However, the full suite of features will only be available for the more recent models on the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed his happiness in a social media post after partnering with Apple to integrate ChatGPT into its products.

Apple has long avoided the term “artificial intelligence,” and has been under a lot of pressure to keep up with rivals Google and Microsoft in the AI race. Investors, however, weren’t impressed with the latest announcements, with shares of Apple going down by 2 percent.
