Apple’s next Mac Mini might ditch the USB-A ports, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who writes in today’s Power On newsletter that the new desktops will start to hit Apple’s warehouses in September. The higher-end variant with an Apple M4 Pro chip will ship in October, he suggests.
The version with an M4 Pri will still pack in a lot of ports, including five USB-C ports two in the front and three in the back), an ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack, as per Gurman’s sources. And the new Mac Mini will apparently have an internal power supply. That’s not too bad for a PC that is said to be the same size as an Apple TV.
So is it finally time to bid adieu to the USB-A port? Well, it might be true. But no matter how users feel about that, it’s about time something new happened with the Mac Mini, the longest-running Apple computer design.

Apple Could Launch Its Smallest Mac Mini With M4 Chips
Apple seems to be gearing up to give its biggest overhaul to the Mac mini lineup. The tech giant is said to prepping a new version of the Mac mini, which will be its smallest desktop computer ever.
As per a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this update will mark the first significant design change since Steve Jobs’ era in 2010 and will see the Mac mini shrink to a size comparable to an Apple TV set-top box.
The new Mac mini will be a part of a broader refresh of the company’s Mac lineup, all integrating the Ai-focused M4 processors. These chips, also set to back the upcoming iMac desktops, MacBook Pros, and potentially MacBook Airs, and Mac Pro models, showcase a major shift as the company standardizes its chip generation across all its Mac products for the first time.

What To Expect From The Upcoming Mac Mini
The M4 processor, already seen on the iPad Pro, is built to enhance artificial intelligence capabilities. Apple has tried out models of the new Mac mini with multiple USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a power cable connection.
The new mini will be available in two versions: a base model with the standard M4 chip and a higher-end variant with the M4 Pro chip, offering more memory and graphics power.
Apple will start updating its Mac lineup with the new M4 chips starting in late 2024 and extending into early 2025. The 24-inch iMac will be upgraded to feature the next-generation M4 chip, expected to enhance AI performance with a potentially improved Neural Engine.
