A trailer for the new Fable instalment has finally been unveiled at the Xbox Showcase. The 2:07-minute trailer features Richard Ayoade as a narrator-like character called Dave and also features real-time in-game footage. Ayoade's character introduces a land filled with heroes and monsters. The game, simply titled Fable is reportedly a reboot of the popular role-playing game that was originally developed by Lionhead Studios.
The game's original developer Lionhead, was shut down by Microsoft in 2016. The Fable revival will be the first game in the series since 2012's Fable: The Journey and the first mainline entry since Fable 3 which was released in 2010.
Fable Reboot is the First Mainline Entry in 13 Years
The new Fable game unfolds in the fictional land of Albion which resembles a medieval English town. The in-game footage reveals a female fighter who's most likely the protagonist, fighting massive monsters, bandits and also a giant-sized Ayoade, who's likely more than just a narrator.
The new trailer does not give away too many details about its plot which has fans disappointed since the series has a cult fandom and the reboot is much awaited. Though the production of the RPG looks slick, it features little to no gameplay which leaves much room for anticipation. Fable games are famed for their world-building and the camaraderie between characters. In the past fans have been able to engage in realistic quests and side quests such as buying property or forming friendships and bonds.
Though the announcement doesn't reveal a release date, fans have speculated that the game will be released sometime in 2024. Playground Games revealed their plans for a reboot around two years ago. It was also reported that the game will release on the Xbox Series X and Series S and Microsoft Windows and will run on the Forza series' in-house game engine, ForzaTech.
