  • Insomniac Games is known for its popular titles like Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

After the successful launch of Spider-Man 2, the game's creative director, Bryan Intihar, recently joined the Kinda Funny Gamescast podcast to discuss Spider-Man 2. During his conversation, Bryan was asked about Wolverine. Answering the question, Bryan replied that it was their decision not to include Wolverine and said, "There was a decision not to do it… I think for us, we wanted to let that team cook, and who knows what the future holds, but right now let's let them do their thing."

Adding own to the conversation, Bryan said that Wolverine will share the same universe as Spider-Man, i.e. the "1048." Sony and Insomniac Games confirmed Marvel's Wolverine during the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase event.

Insomniac Games is on a success spree with back-to-back successful titles like 2016's Ratchet & Clank, 2018's Spider-Man and  Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Entering into 2023, fans eagerly awaited for Insomniac Games to release the latest iteration of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, featuring dual protagonists Peter Parker and Miles Morales, who work together to save the world against terrifying odds.

With Marvel's Spider-Man 2 out for the fans to enjoy, Insomniac will get back to the drawing board to work on their next title, which will take place in the same universe as Spider-Man games. During the 2021 PlayStation Showcase event, Sony revealed the teaser for Marvel's Wolverine and claimed the game to feature an "emotional narrative" and "cutting-edge gameplay."

Marvel's Wolverine will be led by creative director, Brian Horton, and game director, Cameron Christian, known for their work on Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. While talking about Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 in his blog post from 2021, Ryan Schneider, Head of Franchise Strategy and Studio Relations of Insomniac Games, said:

In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit. Even though Marvel's Wolverine is very early in development, from what I've seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special.

In Gossip's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Review,  we discuss how the game is an "ambitious yet safe sequel" that isn't looking to "reinvent the wheel in any major way", and that doesn't feel like a "significant step up from the original in terms of gameplay or storytelling."
