Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. is one of the largest interactive entertainment companies in the world, with it also governing gaming giants like Rockstar Games. In recent news, they have acquired Gearbox Entertainment Company from the Embracer Group, who are behind some remarkable titles in the industry, namely the Borderlands and Duke Nukem series.
As Embracer has been lately shutting down a lot of studios under its wing, including Volition, many were concerned about the future of companies like Gearbox and Eidos, as the latter has also seen layoffs and a canceled Deus Ex title. However, Gearbox Entertainment is ready to begin a new chapter with Take-Two and 2K after being acquired.
The recent acquisition consists of freshly issued shares for Take-Two common stock in the market. According to Businesswires's report on the matter, the number of Take-Two shares will be calculated by dividing the purchase price by the average closing price per share on the market. Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. will acquire Gearbox from Embracer for $460 million, according to the reports. The deal will see its completion through the three offices based in the United States and Canada by June 2024.
Gearbox's success with the Borderlands games has always kept the fans happy for a long time. While the recent Tiny Tina's Adventures was released to a mixed audience score, Gearbox is already working on the next Borderlands game alongside Take-Two. Both the companies were responsible for the past games in the series; however, for the next entry in the franchise, Gearbox will directly operate within Take-Two's 2K label.
