Summer Game Fest is set to return in 2024, announced Geoff Keighley, the gaming journalist and producer who hosts the live video game event annually. After a record-breaking 2023,' the event will return next June, the producer tweeted on Tuesday. This year's show was held on Thursday, June 8, and streamed live from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, California. The event kicked off in 2020, following the cancellation of the industry's leading showcases such as E3 and Gamescom, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The opening showcase of this year’s Summer Game Fest dropped some major announcements including the first Prince of Persia game in 13 years. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown which drops on January 18 is set to return to its side-scrolling component with a larger focus on combat.

The six-day Summer Game Fest also teased the first gameplay of Alan Wake 2 and Mortal Kombat 1, it held the announcement of the release date of Spider-Man 2 and revealed the new trailer and details of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The show announced some news as well about Peacock's action comedy Twisted Metal, Devolver Digital’s new mascot Volvy which is set to return as a robot (VOLV-E) and the iconic John Carpenter's new video game called John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando.
The showcase also revealed partial details about Nimble Giant Entertainment's upcoming Star Trek Infinite game which is set to be a strategy-based game. Nicolas Cage also made a digital appearance while discussing his upcoming role as a playable character in the survival game Dead By Daylight, which announced its DLC at the event. On June 13, the show hosted interviews with women who work in the industry, who love gaming, and those who aspire to make a change, in its Dames 4 games segment. Another segment was dedicated exclusively to presenting games created by Black developers, alongside titles featuring Black protagonists, and conversations with Black creators.
