In the interview, Mike mentioned a 30fps 'Visuals' mode, a 60fps 'Performance' mode, and a 40fps 'high framerate' mode. The last fps mode is for display support higher than 120hz. Alongside these different display support modes, the title will also support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), a popular technology incorporated in most modern games to reduce lag and frame tearing. The technology dramatically aids console titles such as the upcoming Spider-Man 2.
One of the best things about the visual modes offered in the game is that fans will not have to compromise their experience with ray tracing while switching between the different modes. Unlike most new current-gen titles, Insomniac's upcoming title does not intend to boost performance by turning off ray tracing.
According to Sony, Insomniac is arguably the most technically accomplished PlayStation studio. With the upcoming Spider-Man title, the studio has promised significant feats such as a double-weight map than the previous game and many other features that use the most out of the PlayStation 5 hardware. With the different FPS modes involved, fans expect the title to be much more technically advanced as it would possibly offer a much smoother and optimized experience for all PlayStation 5 users.
