The studio behind the Saints Row reboot, Volition, is shutting down following Embracer's restructuring program. Initially formed in 1993, Volition was known as Parallax Software Corporation until it changed its name in 1996. In 2000, famous publisher THQ acquired the studio, which went bankrupt in 2012. Following the bankruptcy, Koch Media placed the studio under its Deep Silver label. In 2018, Embracer Group did not shy away from getting their hands on Volition; since then, the studio has been working under the media group.

Volition Shutting Down After Recent Saints Row Reboot Reception
A recent message from the developers mentioned that in June 2023, Embracer Group announced a restructuring program to strengthen the company and maintain its footing in the industry. Moreover, the program evaluated strategic and operational goals that shut down many studios under the Embracer umbrella. Volition has had great success in the industry over the past couple of decades with massively popular titles such as the Saints Row franchise, Red Faction, and Summoner.
The studio's biggest recent project was the Saints Row reboot, which was poised to breathe new life into the franchise. However, the reception from the audience and critics was largely negative and the game failed to meet either the financial or critical expectations of the publisher. The game was largely panned for its lack of innovation in overall game design and that it simply could not capture the ridiculous lighthearted fun of the original Saints Row games. The game suffered from a litany of technical issues that put pressure on the studio post-launch. While it is unclear whether the Saints Row reboot alone was the cause behind Embracer's decision - it surely could not have helped the studio's case.
