Lenovo Entering Handheld Market With Legion Go

After ASUS and Valve, Lenovo is set to compete with Valve's successful handheld, Steam deck, often referred to as the best in the business, by gamers. Lenovo is working on a PC gaming handheld called the Lenovo Go, which will reportedly feature an 8-inch display (Steam Deck and ROG Ally both have 7-inch displays)  and will come with Windows 11. Lenovo’s handheld will reportedly adopt AMD’s “Phoenix” APUs, based on RDNA3 graphics architecture and are usually sold as Ryzen 7040U or Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme.

AMD recently unveiled its Pheonix chip lineup — the world’s first chip with dedicated AI engines. It also focuses on gaming, AI, and graphics for ultrabooks, so it offers more compatibility for games. In 2021, reports swirled around that Lenovo had plans for an Android handheld device called the Lenovo Legion Play featuring a 7-inch 16:9 FHD bezel-less display, HDR 10 support, built-in controllers, dual vibration etc. But the product never saw the light of day.

Lenovo Legion Go Set To Resemble Steam Deck and ROG Ally In One Key Aspect

Rumoured specs also include a Full HD touchscreen panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. A Windows Central report also claims that much like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, the Legion Go will also support a 15W low-power state for improved battery life. With Microsoft and Dell also making a play for the handheld market, it'd take Lenovo quite a bit of effort to break Valve's stride, since it has been able to one-up Nintendo's handheld, Switch.

The Steam Deck is almost too big and doesn’t have great battery life and if Lenovo was to compete with Valve's handheld it need to offer more in terms of battery life and convenience. Reports claim that like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, the Legion Go will also support a 15W low-power state for improved battery life. The device is apparently still in the development stage and Lenovo has not commented on its development, so there's no release window as of yet.
