Xiaomi has announced the launch of the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro as the first two devices to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Elite was announced last week. The chipset is built on a 3nm process and utilizes an Oryon CPU, adding notable performance increases in this year’s flagship chipset.
The Xiaomi 15 series takes on that chipset alongside an upgraded cooling system in the 15 Pro. The new system adds a 14% increase in cooling areas. On top of that, the Xiaomi 15 Pro has a 6100mAh battery, while the less expensive variant has a 5400mAh unit. In either case, battery life is said to be reliable.

Xiaomi 15 Series Under The Hood
Both editions of the Xioami 15 will pair either 12GB or 16GB RAM with the latest Snapdragon chipset. The Xiaomi 15 Pro has a sleek design and a slightly curved display, while the body rails are made from aluminum.
The rear panel packs a square Leica-branded camera array with three large-aperture lenses. Xiaomi notes the 15 Pro uses the same Sony IMX858 sensor as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra does for its telephoto lens. The standard variant gets a similar design with slightly curved edges.
The base model comes in several pastel and greyscale colors - White, Black, Green, and Purple - while the Pro takes on some deeper colors with Gray, Green, and White. Xiaomi is also offering a special “Liquid Silver” edition that carries a ripple effect in the right light. The Xiaomi 15 Pro will start at 5,299 RMB, while the Xiaomi 15 will begin at 4,499 RMB in China.

Xiaomi “Tapes Out” China’s First 3nm Smartphone Chip
Xiaomi has been said to be working on its very own smartphone chip for some time now. Looks like the company has now reached an important milestone. A report from Chinese media MyDrivers suggests that Xiaomi has successfully “taped out” China’s first 3mm smartphone SoC.
The announcement came from the Chief Economist of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology on BRTV, a government-owned TV network in China. Below is the announcement video of the same, in Chinese of course, posted by an X user.
The report did not give out any details about the CPU or GPU and only mentions that it is a 3nm chip. It also doesn’t specify whether Xiaomi is using TSMC, Samsung, or another node for production. However, the “tape-out” process is silicon design means the chip has reached the final stage before it’s sent to the manufacturing facility for production.
