Meta-owned messaging service WhatsApp is getting a new low-light mode, which will help users attend video calls in low-light conditions. The feature was part of a recent update that brought the ability to add filters and background in video calls.
Enabling the low light mode on WhatsApp can enable users to have better video quality while taking calls in low lighting conditions while also reducing graininess in the image. To use the new low light feature, users need to tap on the bulb icon during a video call. The new feature is available for both iOS and Android versions of the app but is yet to make its way to the web app.

WhatsApp also recently rolled out a new update that lets users personalize their conversations with a chat theme. As per WABetaInfo, the new custom chat themes feature is available for select beta users, starting with WhatsApp version 2.24.21.34 for Android and version 24.20.71 for iOS.

WhatsApp Users Can Now Tag Friends In Status Updates
WhatsApp has also rolled out a few new features for status updates. As per the company, WhatsApp Status is the best way to stay connected with friends and family and the new features will make it better.
Users will now be able to like others’ statuses and will have the ability to reshare a status they are mentioned in. Also, users will be able to privately mention — and tag others — their contacts in status updates.
According to WhatsApp, there could be times when users will miss out on seeing a few important updates. “Make sure those closest to you see your status, and let them share it easily with their audience, by privately mentioning them,” noted WhatsApp in a blog post. People who are mentioned in status updates will be notified privately, and the mention won’t be shown on their status.
Status likes will be like any other tool on other platforms. With a single tap of the button, users will be able to like their contacts’ status updates. WhatsApp said that status likes are private and don’t have an answer, so only the person whose status users liked can see them in the list of viewers.
