SearchGPT To Challenge Google, Microsoft’s Search Engines
OpenAI’s moves come as Google finds itself facing a hard time keeping up with the rapid development of AI technology that kicked off with the launch of ChatGPT in 2022. besides, SearchGPT is capable of taking on Microsoft’s Bing, which was powered by OpneAI tech last year, in a bid to give Google more competition. The company has said that it is currently working on a prototype. The company plans to integrate the best of these features into ChatGPT in the coming days.
In a statement on its website, the company said, "We're testing SearchGPT, a prototype of new search features designed to combine the strength of our AI models with information from the web to give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources. We're launching with a small group of users and publishers to get feedback. While this prototype is temporary, we plan to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future. If you're interested in trying the prototype, sign up (opens in a new window) for the waitlist."
SearchGPT aims to provide quick and direct responses to users’ queries with up-to-date information from the web while giving users clear links to relevant sources. Moreover, the user will be able to ask follow-up questions, like users would in a conversation with a person, with the shared context building with each query.

OpenAI To Launch A Cheaper And Smarter Model Soon
OpenAI will soon be releasing a cheaper, lighter model called GPT-4o Mini for developers. It costs significantly less than full-sized models and is said to be more capable than GPT-3.5.
Building apps using the company’s models can generate a hefty bill. Developers without the means to afford to tinker with it can get priced out of it entirely and might opt for cheaper models like Google’s Gemini 1.5 Flash or Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku. Now, the company is entering the light model game.
