Recent rumors have hinted that Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone 16 Pro could come equipped with a new zoom camera. And now, a new report from DigiTimes suggests that Apple is stepping up its zoom game in the next iPhone series.
According to the report, Apple has placed large orders with lens manufacturers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO), with an aim to expand the use of periscope lenses in its upcoming iPhone lineup.

Apple To Equip iPhone 16 Pro With New Zoom Lens
Here’s what DigiTimes report noted:
“Apple is set to expand the use of periscope lenses in its upcoming iPhone series, with Taiwanese lens module manufacturers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) expected to be the primary suppliers, according to industry sources. Largan supplied periscope lenses for the premium iPhone 15 Pro Max launched last year. This year, more models in the upcoming iPhone lineup will feature periscope lenses. GSEO is likely to join as a new supplier for this year’s iPhones.”
Having a 5x zoom lens is a feature generally reserved for the most expensive flagships in a company’s portfolio, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. Apple introduced a new tetraprism 5x zoom lens exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year, while the smaller iPhone 15 Pro was limited to a 3x zoon lens.
However, with the iPhone 16 series, this disparity is said to be eliminated, as both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could come with an advanced tetraprism 5x lens. Moreover, a new leak hinted that all four iPhone 16 models this year will be equipped with the same-generation Apple A18 chip. The iPhone 16 series is said to debut in September this year.

Apple Brings New Game Porting Toolkit
Apple has announced a new iteration of its Gaming Porting Toolkit, developed to ease the process of bringing Windows games to macOS and now iOS, according to 9To5Mac. Originally launched last year to facilitate the adaptation of Windows games for macOS, this toolkit has already seen many AAA games transition to the Mac.
The latest version of the toolkit, Game Porting Toolkit 2.0, extends its capabilities to include iPhones and iPads. According to the publication, Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit offers a robust framework for translating Windows games into native macOS apps.
Developers will be able to use this tool to assess the feasibility of porting their games to Mac, followed by detailed optimizations for macOS. A key feature of the toolkit is its ability to convert DirectX graphics to Metal, Apple’s graphics API.
