Instagram has announced a new multi-track audio support for Reels. The new feature comes days after the platform head Adam Mosseri stated that Instagram would prioritize short-form content over long videos.
With the launch of this new functionality for Instagram Reels, users will now be able to add multiple audio tracks in a single Instagram Reel, allowing them to produce creative mixes using their smartphone.
Mosseri announced the rollout of multi-audio track support via a post on the platform, stating that users can add up to 20 tracks to a single Reel, giving users more creative freedom to make content. They can align the audio with text, and edit the Reel with stickers, clips, and other items. The audio clips can also overlap, and the app will generate a fade effect.

Instagram To Prioritise Short-Form Content
Announcing the feature, Instagram said, “With the flexibility to pair the right tracks with the right clips at the right time, one can express their creativity the way that feels right for them and their audience.”
When a user creates a mix, it will be saved with attribution to them. Others will be able to reuse these mixed audi clips as well, according to Instagram. This feature is also available to users in India, but not everyone will see it right away. The platform could be releasing the feature in a gradual manner.
The rollout of multi-track support for Reels comes just after Mosseri said that Instagram would focus on prioritizing short-form content on its platform. When a user comes across a short video clip that interests them, they often share it with their friends who have similar interests, as per the executive. This is claimed to satisfy two “symbiotic” objectives: connecting users with their friends, and allowing them to explore their interests.

Instagram Brings Live Broadcasts For Close Friends
The Meta-owned is rolling out a new way to livestream to a smaller, more private audience. Now, Instagram users will be able to host Live broadcasts only available to their curated list of Close Friends. Up to three other accounts will be able to join the Live broadcast and stream with the original user. The feature will be made available globally.
Until now, starting a Live broadcast meant that anyone could tune in and watch it if the user’s account was public, and all followers would be able to watch the stream if users had a private account.
Live videos are a popular feature for celebrities and influencers chatting with followers or fan accounts streaming live footage from concerts. In simple words, content that’s more focused on wide audiences and for public consumption.
