Rockstar Games and data leaks have been among the most talked about stories in the past two years. The security breach saga continues as over 200GB of GTA 5 source code, including assets and 3D models, was leaked online. According to the GTA 5's source code, Rockstar Games cancelled a series of DLCs for the game, including the Liberty City expansion in GTA 5.

Throughout their time developing GTA 6, Rockstar Games faced one of the most significant security breaches in 2022, where over 90 in-game footages were leaked by the hacker, revealing crucial information like the addition of Lucia, the female protagonist for the first time and the comeback of Vice City into the franchise. Later, hackers leaked the gameplay trailer of GTA 6, resulting in Rockstar releasing the must-awaited trailer hours before the set time

GTA 5 Leaked Source Code Reveals Multiple Cancelled DLCs, Including The Liberty City Expansion

While hackers managed to steal 200GB of data from Rockstar's server, they published only a minute part of 4GB online. Rumours suggest that the affected data include not only GTA 5 source code but also files from the highly awaited sequel, Bully 2, unreleased GTA 5 DLCs, chunks of GTA 6's code and one of the cancelled projects called "Agent", a game inspired from the James Bond franchise.

According to GTA Focal, TakeTwo Interactive is taking down links that are redirected to the source code. Additionally, hackers are negotiating over publishing the complete source code. The leaked source code suggests that Rockstar planned multiple single-player DLCs for GTA 5 but never released them. Here is the list of single-player DLCs mentioned in the leaked source code.

  •  Manhunt
  •  Norman
  •  Relationship
  •  Enterprise
  •  Prologue
  •  Assassination
  •  Agent Trevor
  •  Liberty City

Fans are unhappy after learning about unreleased expansions like Agent Trevor and Liberty City. One user expressed his anger towards the unreleased DLCs by saying, "F**K GTA ONLINE! WE COULD'VE HAD GREATNESS BUT GOT MID ONLINE S**T INSTEAD!" while another said, "Liberty City being cut hurts the most."

With many security breaches at Rockstar Games, the publisher is an easy target for hackers. Since hackers have the complete source code of GTA 5, they can exploit the game's vulnerabilities to attack individual systems. It will be interesting to see whether TakeTwo manages to trace down hackers before they publish the complete code online.

During the court trial against Arion Kurtaj, a teenager behind the infamous hacking crew Lapsus$, Rockstar Games claimed that the hack had cost the company over $5 million alongside thousands of hours of staff time. Additionally, Rockstar Games had to release the trailer of their highly anticipated game, GTA 6, hours earlier because of the trailer leak online.
