Assassin's Creed Mirage Rumoured to Have Been Delayed Internally

Assassin's Creed Mirage, one of Ubisoft's most exciting upcoming projects, was speculated to have an August release window but that looks like it might have been delayed. Rumblings from within the industry suggest that Ubisoft has internally pushed the game's release window to October. This hasn't been confirmed in a public statement by the publisher.

Ubisoft has maintained radio silence on Mirage since it was first announced last year and fans have not seen any substantial gameplay. Assassin's Creed Mirage is said to be taking the series back to its roots with a focus on the traditional stealth-action elements that helped set up the foundations for the series' success. In recent years, Assassin's Creed has skewed heavily towards the action-RPG side, borrowing elements from games like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim.

While many fans appreciated the series' bold, new direction, a subsect of the community has been clamouring for a return to the roots for several years now. Assassin's Creed Mirage appears to respond to the demand and it will be interesting to see what Ubisoft has in store for fans.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Could be Exactly What the Series Needs Right Now

Commercially, the series has never been in a better position, with Assassin's Creed Valhalla solidifying itself as one of the best-selling entries in the franchise. However, the game received much flak due to its questionable padding and bloated game length. There have been many complaints against this new franchise direction, but it looks like it is here to stay. Ubisoft has a long-term road plan in place, which includes not just console and PC titles, but also mobile games.

Ubisoft is looking at an interesting approach, trying to maximize its potential audience with a variety of offerings across different platforms. Assassin's Creed Mirage could be a good way for Ubisoft to gauge interest in a more traditional style of game. If successful, Ubisoft could look to let its smaller studios focus on smaller-scale games that are in the vein of older titles like Assassin's Creed II.
