All Counter-Strike 2 Features Players Can Expect

Over the past week, CS2 Limited-Test sessions have faced repeated server outages, leading players to get kicked out of their games. This might indicate that Valve is working towards the full launch of CS2, as the developers could be working on various back-end changes.

Recently, Valved introduced a list of changes to the CS2 Limited-Test session, overhauling a few significant aspects of the title before its official launch. While these features received mixed reception across the player base, Valve remained consistent with their updates regarding Counter-Strike 2.

So far, CS2 has received the following changes:

  • New MR12 (Max Rounds 12) format: Similar to Valorant, now CS2 will follow a max-round 12 format since its last major update for Premier.
  • CS Rating Player Metric: The new rating system is a helpful matchmaking tool for Premier players.
  • Inspect grenades feature: With Counter-Strike 2, players can now inspect their utility, such as smoke and frag grenades.
  • Loadout system for picking guns: Counter-Strike 2 players can now add specific guns to their loadout to take in their game.
  • Updated Buy Menu alongside weapon selling option: Valve also added a feature of selling weapons and utilities during the buy phase, similar to Valorant.
  • Source 2 Engine upgrade: Source 2 has been a significant engine overhaul for Counter-Strike fans with CS2, adding improved and better visuals alongside upgraded in-game physics.
  • Sub-tick rate system: The new sub-tick rate system will offer an improved net code despite a player having an unstable network. Providing everyone on the server a fair experience.
  • Match termination upon detecting a cheater: The brand new VAC cheat engine will now terminate a game immediately after a cheater is detected, saving the lobby from unfair competition.
  • Updated old and new maps: The new Source 2 Engine has successfully updated both new and old Counter-Strike maps, adding in tons of recent visual changes and overhauls.
  • Responsive smokes: Responsive smokes now react based on their environment. One can also manipulate the smoke with grenades, explosions, and bullets.
  • Environmental and blood effects: The brand new blood splatter animations offer much better animations and VFX with the new Source engine. The grenade explosions also provide a much better theatrical effect.
  • Audio-visual indicator in minimap: The brand-new minimap now offers visual and audio indicators for footsteps. This feature is a huge improvement over the standard CS:GO minimap.
  • Audio rework: The audio in CS2 has been completely overhauled, as mentioned by Valve during the first official Counter-Strike 2 announcement. With the reworked audio, players will receive a much better 3D surround sound compared to CS:GO's standard HRTF.
  • Improved in-game UI: The improved in-game UI offers a neat HUD and minimalistic design. It also brings new features like the kill count that allows one to track their fragging progress during a round.
  • Source 2 tools for workshop community: One of the major upgrades the Source 2 Engine has offered players is the brand-new toolbox for workshop and community members. This can allow one to make new assets and maps in the official map editor.
