Prominent source on X and video game researcher @Kurakasis has claimed that Take-Two Interactive is reportedly working on a new Mafia game. Their recent tweet mentioned that the company has begun its preparations for an announcement regarding the Mafia series; however, the researcher in question is still unsure about the timeframe of the title. Moreover, it is also unknown if the upcoming announcement will be regarding Mafia 4. As various reports like from Insider Gaming have already suggested that a Mafia 4 'prequel' is in pre-production, Take-Two can announce another mainline entry to the audience.

Mafia Definitive Edition

Kurkasis, the researcher in question has previously found early information on games as he discovered their trademarks. This also suggests that the game has recently had a trademark filing, as the company could be readying itself for an announcement, as suggested by Insider Gaming's report. Last year, a job listing hinted that the company could be working on the next Mafia game, however, there was no solid information backing that claim. Mafia 3 was the last mainline entry in the franchise, before Hangar 13 released the Mafia remake with the Definitive Edition, making the title a lot more playable with greatly improved visuals for the current-gen hardware.

While Mafia 3 was released to a mediocre reception and ratings during its release in 2016, gamers still expected another entry after a while. However, it is still unknown if the next entry will be a fourth game or a collection of all the games in the series. The job listing for the Mafia game last year suggested that the 'unannounced multi-platform game' was in pre-production using Unreal Engine 5. Being the latest version of the industry-popular engine, it has yet to see an AAA title on the market for a known IP.

If the rumors are to be believed, the next Mafia game is expected to surpass the previous titles in the franchise greatly in terms of visuals. The job listing also suggested that the next iteration in the Mafia franchise would feature 'engagement in stealth and combat gameplay loop.' This could be true, as the Mafia Definitive Edition also incorporated such features, where Tommy Angelo would often engage in stealth-based sections while also using a range of weapons from the prohibition era to take out enemies in the city of Lost Heaven.
