Netflix has announced that it will begin testing its games across more devices, including TVs and computers, alongside mobile phones. The company has launched a cloud gaming service in limited beta form and a small number of subscribers in the UK and Canada can access the service. It's reportedly only available on select TVs at the moment and will come to PC and Mac in the coming weeks on supported browsers.

The service uses a mobile controller app to act as an input device for games. Netflix launched an app called Netflix Game Controller which let subscribers play games on their TV or use their phone as a controller after pairing it with the TV. The app has appeared in the App Store and the description reads, 'Coming soon to Netflix.'

The test supports two games: first-party game Oxenfree from Night School Studio, and Molehew’s arcade game Mining Adventure. Netflix has shared its plans to expand beyond mobile gaming. In October 2022, Netflix VP of Gaming Mike Verdu said at an event that Netflix was 'exploring a cloud gaming offering.'  He also revealed that the company would open a new gaming studio in Southern California, led by Chacko Sonny, the former executive producer at Overwatch; the studio is reportedly working on an original, multiplatform, triple-A game (the team also features Halo veteran Joseph Staten, who left Microsoft in March, and art director Raf Grassetti, who has been a part of God of War developer Santa Monica Studio).

"We’ve been focused on creating a great gaming experience for our members since 2021 when we added mobile games to Netflix,” said Verdu in a blog post in August. “Our goal has always been to have a game for everyone, and we are working hard to meet members where they are with an accessible, smooth, and ubiquitous service.”
