Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was finally revealed to be the heavily-rumoured Metal Gear Solid remake. The game is scheduled to come out on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Konami also revealed the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection, which is a package that includes the original Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
The Master Collection will be available on the "latest platforms", which is probably the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The collection will be available in Autumn 2023.
Konami has assured that the remake will be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design. "We are working hard for METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design," expressed Konami in the statement. "While evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience."
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Brings the Trilogy to New-Gen Platforms
So far, Konami is yet to confirm which platforms the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection will be available on. The development team has simply stated it will be available on "the latest platforms". This probably means that the collection will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is widely recognized as one of the greatest games in history, owing to its revolutionary stealth mechanics and innovative gameplay that challenged the players to think differently about game design. The game has a storied legacy in the industry and it will be an immense task for the development team to improve upon a masterpiece.
Retaining the game's core aspects and refining the gameplay to suit modern sensibilities and expectations will likely be a winning formula for the team. The updated visual and audio tweaks will certainly help make the game more appealing to new audiences. This could serve as a starting point for the publisher as this could be their way of gauging fan interest in the franchise and whether a full-fledged sequel is on the cards.
This is quite an exciting time to be a Metal Gear fan as there seems to be renewed interest in the franchise despite the absence of the series originator, Hideo Kojima. Since his high-profile exit from Konami, the publisher has been sitting on the Metal Gear franchise, save for Metal Gear Survive. Fans were rightly apprehensive about the franchise's future under Konami without Kojima at the helm of the franchise.
So as long as the IP remains Konami's, a remake is probably the best call to make. The Konami-Kojima split was one of the most talked-about stories of the last few years and resulted in Kojima's final Metal Gear game being rushed and released with a ton of meddling from the publisher.
