The new Story trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 provides fans with a lot more insight into the kind of story they can expect in the game. Insomniac Games had suggested that the sequel was going to have a darker tone as compared to the original. This is reflected quite well in the trailer that shows Peter and Miles going up against a terrifying Venom and the menacing Kraven the Hunter.
The trailer has a strong focus on Harry Osborn, who looks like he is going to play a very pivotal role in the game. It was suggested at the end of Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) that it would be Harry Osborne bonding with the Venom symbiote and it looks like that might just be the case. The trailer also brings back familiar faces, including Martin Li and Rio Morales.
Harry Osborn is Probably Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
It appears that the game is going to be taking pretty big swings and given what Insomniac was able to accomplish with the 2018 title and Miles Morales, expectations from the studio are at an all-time high. The darker tone is pervasive throughout the trailer but it does seem to still have a sense of humour about things to a certain extent.
It appears character models have received slight updates with MJ in particular looking a lot different than she did in the 2018 game. Miles is also visibly older so it is safe to assume that the game will take place some years removed from the events of Marvel's Spider-Man (2018). It will be interesting to see if characters like Eddie Brock will be making an appearance in the sequel and if they will play a role in the Venom symbiote part of the story. The game is scheduled to come out on October 20, 2023, and will be available exclusively on the PS5.
