After fans eagerly waited for another sequel to 2016's Mankind Divided, sour news surfaced on the internet following the layoffs. Eidos is not the only studio that has seen a layoff this month right after leaping into the new year, studios and companies like Riot Games, Unity, and Microsoft have released thousands of employees from their work posts.​

Eidos is considered a top-tier studio in the gaming industry as it has laid the foundation through many titles. The Deus Ex franchise is one of them among their other mega projects like Tomb Raider and the original Hitman series. With the recent news of layoffs, fans are extremely disappointed to know that Jensen's story from the Deus Ex games will end at a poor cliffhanger.

​What Happened to the Unnamed Deus Ex Game In Development?

 

According to Bloolmberg's report on the matter, the canceled Deus Ex game already had two years of development before Embracer Group AB decided to scrap it. Fans speculate that the recent layoffs have possibly affected the development cycle of the long-teased game.

Following the news, gamers now assume that the franchise will not receive any newer entries shortly. However, Bloomberg's report also states that Eidos will now focus on an original franchise.

 

Embracer Lays Off 97 Eidos Employees and Cancels New Deus Ex Game

Embracer's recent layoffs have led to Eidos announcing letting go of their 97 staff members, including game developers and support staff. According to Bloomberg's report, the studio has also cancelled an unannounced Deus Ex game. In the official X post made by Eidos, the studio stated that the global economic context challenged the team and led to a restructuring announced by Embracer. The difficult decision of restructuring has led to the letting go of 97 people from the development teams, administration, and support services.

​Eidos also stated that they are working to support all impacted personnel through their transition. The statement claimed that the workers are now entering the employment market with talent and experience and the studio wants them to find their next projects. ​The statement also shared a few words for the players, claiming that the studio equally celebrates the game makers and their games. Despite the restructuring, the studio is focused on making the best games possible and continues to deliver the standard experience for all fans.
