Helldivers 2 Community Manager 'Spitz' has seemingly been fired from Arrowhead Game Studios, due to encouraging gamers to 'review bomb' the game during the PSN account linking controversy from Sony. While the mandatory PSN linking to Steam is now cancelled, the Community Manager in question still received harsh treatment from the developers for his outings.

Last week, Helldivers 2 was to receive an update that would make PSN account linking mandatory for all PC players to play the game. Undoubtedly, this made the majority of the fans very unhappy as most of the gamers across the globe playing the game did not even have PSN access in their countries. However, Sony canceled the decision last minute, following major review bombs on the Steam page, which also led to refunds.

Helldivers 2 Warbond update is coming this month

Following the PSN controversy from Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 Community Manager, who goes by the Discord tag of Spitz, was seemingly fired. According to many reports, Spitz was initially quite vocal on the PSN linking matter and encouraged gamers to put negative Steam reviews under the Helldivers 2 page. After his unexpected layoff, the ex-Community Manager once more expressed his opinions to fans. In a Discord message, he wrote that it is usually not a good idea for a Community Manager to ask people to leave negative reviews. However, the decision was made out of desperation. He wrote:

"Generally it's not a good idea to tell people to refund and leave negative reviews when you're a community manager. TIL,"

The ex-Community Manager shared more of his feelings, saying:

"I appreciate all the support and I appreciate even more that everyone can play the game again without restrictions. I knew I was taking a risk with what I said about refunding and changing reviews. I stand by it. It was my job to represent the community, that's what I did."

His further statements replying to more fans on the official Discord servers also read:

"I wanted to work for Arrowhead because they're my all-time favorite studio. I got that chance. I'm thankful for that opportunity. I'd happily continue working for them if I had the choice, but that isn't up to me or anyone else in here. I can walk away happy and I don't want anyone causing trouble on my behalf, especially not to people I still have a lot of care and respect for."

This is huge coming from the Community Manager himself, as fans say that most holding a position of power such as his will not take similar steps in defending the community. However, it is highly unlikely that Arrowhead or Sony will go back on their decision to keep Spitz as an employee. Arrowhead Game Studios or Sony has not officially stated anything on the situation on Spitz's firing yet, as the news has only come from the ex-Community Manager himself. According to his statements, he is not leaving the company on his terms.
