The long-awaited DLC, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree has finally launched its official gameplay reveal trailer on February 21, 2024, showcasing a brand-new landmass in the map of Limgrave as it is told to focus on new characters and bosses, and uncovering new lore. The DLC was first announced by FromSoftware in 2023, as the studio revealed an artwork of the new landmass and a character riding a horse in the fields.
Back then there was no information available regarding the details of the DLC; however, the new Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay reveal trailer discloses a lot more about the expansion.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Release Date Revealed by FromSoftware
As shown in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree official gameplay reveal trailer, the DLC will be released on June 21, 2024. Gamers can pre-order the DLC on their respective platforms, as it will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is FromSoftware's largest expansion ever. Much like the story of the base game, the DLC also has equal involvement from popular Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) writer, George R.R Martin. That said, the DLC will likely focus on Miquella's storyline, the only Demigod from the universe that players did not get to fight in the base game.
He can be found in Mohg's boss's room in the ruined lands of the Mohgwyn Palace. The trailer showcases the egg in which he is entrapped as he is suffering from the rotten curse of being trapped in the body of a perpetually young child.
From the trailer, one can assume that gamers can explore Miquella's dream world, where he is ruling the dream kingdom. This DLC might draw similar inspirations from Dark Souls' Painted Worlds of Ariamis and Ariandel expansions, where gamers are sent to a completely different world within the Souls universe.
What to Expect from Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?
According to Eurogamer's report, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the Soulsborne universe, has shared much on the DLC and what elements it may bring to the fans. One can expect a new surface area much larger than the map size of Limgrave, the default landmass in the base game. Moreover, the DLC will bring over 10 boss fights alongside eight new weapon categories.
With the expansion, gamers can also look forward to new field areas, legacy, and smaller dungeons. Much like any Souls DLC, Elden Ring's expansion will also introduce a new infamous swamp area, which will likely be much more challenging. Miyazaki has also stated that the field and dungeons will be more connected for a seamless traversal.
