Den Of Wolves Positioning Itself in Direct Competition with Payday

The Game Awards 2023 was filled with several video game announcements, including OD, Marvel's Blade, Jurassic Park Survival and many more. One of the games announced at The Game Awards 2023 was Den of Wolves by 10 Chambers. Den of Wolves comes from the creators of the popular titles Payday: The Heist, Payday 2 and GTFO. Den of Wolves will be a sci-fi cooperative FPS heist game and a direct competitor to the newly released Payday 3 by Starbreeze. In a recent interview with PCGamesN, Simon Viklund, co-founder of 10 Chambers and an ex-Payday developer, expressed his disappointment with Payday 3 and how their upcoming title will focus on filling the gaps Starbreeze left. 

Simon Viklund has worked closely with the Starbreeze Studio as the creative director and sound designer for Payday: The Heist and as a composer and the character Brian's voice in Payday 2. Viklund continued creating co-op FPS games, founded 10 Chambers in 2016 and released GTFO, a horror co-op game, in 2019.

Den Of Wolves By 10 Chambers Will Be A Sci-Fi Co-op FPS Game

Payday 3 didn't meet the expectations of both fans and Simon Viklund. While talking about the root cause of Payday 3's struggle, Simon says:

The issue they're struggling with is that the previous game is so big and has so much content, and the people who play that game have invested so much in the DLC needed. It's hard for them to abandon all of that, the players, and start over in a new game with less content, which might be buggy and janky in places.

The Den of Wolves' trailer was released during The Game Awards 2023, showcasing what the game offers. In the trailer, one of the authorities, Mr Bowman, interrogates a suspect about a break-in. The trailer confirms that the game will be a scientific fiction game, entering the world of heist and a "techno-thriller" game, as described by 10 Chambers. Den of Wolves will add the elements of industrial espionage, sabotage, theft and assassinations. Talking about the competition against Payday 3, Simon says,

I'm not betting against them. Because we want them to succeed. If they're better, we are forced to be better, because we realize it's going to be a little bit of a competition, especially with our history within that company and that IP, specifically. But we're hoping that it turns out that they can turn it around and be like, building over time. It'll replace Payday 2.

While the developer claims new heist elements are coming in the Den of Wolves, fans must wait for the game to be released and test it out.
