Paper Rex proved to be one of the best teams in VCT 2023, and their star player, Jing Jie ‘Jinggg’ Wang, played a crucial role in the team’s success. After VCT 2023, Jinggg was supposed to return to Singapore for the National Services, which meant that Jinggg couldn’t continue with his esports journey. In an unexpected turn of events, Paper Rex announced that Jinggg wouldn’t be able to join the military services in Singapore and would return to play for Paper Rex.

Before playing the grand finals of VCT Champions 2023, Jinggg announced that he would temporarily be retired from competitive Valorant to perform the mandatory National Services in Singapore. While Paper Rex’s fans wanted to see Jinggg win the Champions finale, Evil Geniuses overpowered them and defeated them to win the VCT Champions 2023. Jinggg played his last match with Paper Rex at the AfreecaTV Valorant League OFF//SEASON event.

Jinggg Replace Monyet In Paper Rex’s Valorant Roster For The Upcoming VCT Pacific: Split 1

While fans were wondering when Jinggg would return to competitive Valorant, Paper Rex dropped an exciting announcement stating Jinggg’s comeback. When Jinggg retired and returned to Singapore to register for the National Services, Paper Rex chose Monyet to fill his shoes. With Monyet, Paper Rex continued to showcase their unorthodox gameplay, and finished third in the Valorant 2024: Masters Madrid.

While teams are preparing for VCT Pacific: Split 1, Paper Rex announced that Jinggg was medically unfit for military service due to a life-long medical condition. Paper Rex confirmed that Jinggg’s medical condition wouldn’t impact his ability to compete in competitive Valorant esports, and he will join Paper Rex’s main roster for the remainder of the VCT 2024 season. Paper Rex has signed a contract with Jinggg until the end of 2026. While reflecting on the current developments in Paper Rex’s roster, Harley “dsn” Örvall, Chief Gaming Officer (CGO), Paper Rex, said:

We were always prepared for the time that Jing Jie would have to register for his military service. Plans to keep our VALORANT roster’s competitive edge began as early as the start of 2023. However, we consider ourselves extremely fortunate that recent developments allow Jing Jie to continue competing on our team. Naturally, we’re ecstatic and are working to ensure Jing Jie’s documents and paperwork are in order to get him back in the game as soon as possible.

Paper Rex has also requested the fans to respect Jinggg’s privacy with regard to his medical condition.

After the return of Jinggg, Monyet has moved to the reserve player role. Paper Rex’s roster for the upcoming VCT Pacific: Split 1 will be:

  • Aaron ‘mindfreak’ Leonhart
  • Jason ‘f0rsakeN’ Susanto
  • Khalish ‘d4v41’ Rusyaidee
  • Ilia ‘something’ Petrov
  • Jing Jie ‘Jinggg’ Wang
  • Cahya ‘Monyet’  Nugraha (Reserve)
  • Alexandre ‘Alecks’ Salle (Coach)
